POST-CONSTRUCTION CLEAN BLUEPRINT

Phase 1: The Rough Clean (Debris & Major Dust)

Before you can polish anything, you have to clear the battlefield. The initial phase of post-construction cleaning focuses on removing large items and the heaviest layers of sediment.

Trash and Material Removal: Safely gather and discard left-behind tape, plastic coverings, protective films, cardboard, and stray hardware.

The Top-Down Vacuuming Rule: Drywall particles are incredibly light. If you sweep, they float into the air and settle right back down hours later. Professionals use heavy-duty HEPA-filter vacuums starting from the very top of the room—ceiling joists, light fixtures, and window frames—and work down to the floors.

Wiping Down Vertical Surfaces: Walls are major dust magnets during construction. Using dry microfiber mops or damp cloths (depending on the paint type), wipe walls from top to bottom to catch clinging particles.

Phase 2: The Detail Clean (The Core Transformation)

This is where the real magic happens. Once the heavy layers are gone, it's time to address the hard-to-reach places and specific fixtures that require specialized care.

Windows, Ledges, and Light Fixtures

Windows are notoriously neglected during construction. They are often coated in a film of silicone, plaster splatters, and sticker residue. Cleaning them requires a careful touch—using a razor blade at the wrong angle can permanently scratch new glass. Frames, tracks, and sills must be vacuumed thoroughly before any wet cleaning solution is applied, or you will create a muddy paste in the window tracks.

Kitchens and Bathrooms

New cabinetry looks gorgeous, but if you open the drawers, you will likely find a thick layer of sawdust. Every single shelf, drawer runner, cabinet door, and hinge needs to be individually wiped down. Countertops—especially natural stone like marble or quartz—must be cleaned with pH-neutral solutions to prevent etching from harsh construction chemicals.

Air Vent Care

Perhaps the most crucial step for your health is cleaning the HVAC registers and vents. Construction dust easily pulls into the return vents, meaning the first time you switch on your air conditioning, it can blast dust right back across your clean home. Remove vent covers, vacuum deep into the ducts, and replace all air filters immediately.
